Back with Lara

11 June 2007

I spent the cold long weekend getting reacquainted with a woman I’ve had a lot of fun with, Lara Croft.

Tomb Raider was the first game I bought for my Playstation about eight years ago and I was hooked from the start. I’ve bought and played out each of the subsequent games in the series.

The latest, Tomb Raider Anniversary, was released last week. It’s a remake of the first game with the latest game engine and graphics. It’s so much fun revisiting the levels of the old game but with a modern take, look and speed.

A lot of words have been written about Lara Croft. Are the game creators using sex to sell video games? Well I’m clearly not the target market of that sort of advertising.

Have the creators made Lara a role model for women and a way to get more for women to play? Maybe, but again I’m not the right target audience there either!

t doesn’t bother me that her body might not be anatomically correct or her boobs might be too big. I don’t notice such things.

For me the character moves quickly and gracefully make the game fun to play. The design of the levels and the feeling of exploration complete the deal.

  1. [...] It’s just like how I found out about the Anniversary game last year. And I love Lara’s games. [...]
